Deutsche Telekom is the largest telecoms operator in Germany. Telekom serves every customer segment using multiple technologies and service offerings for mobile and fixed line communications.
With the highly heterogenous software application environment that is common among incumbent operators, it was required to implement a highly agile delivery model for the enterprise application integration layer (EAI). As the legacy applications are further developed and new applications come online, full integration is complex.
– Have much shorter software delivery cycles, reducing from 3 months to 3 weeks
– Reduce costs for integration of application changes or new applications into the Telekom application landscape
– Ensure quality and integrity of existing systems and functionality by fully automating regression tests
Due to the fact that the connected applications still followed the waterfall software delivery model, it was challenging to implement agile methods for the application integration layer. By communicating effectively with connected stakeholders and by involving partner systems in the development process, the EAI team was able to effectively act in an agile way within a waterfall world. Delivery dates were aligned with sprint cycles so that a synchronised delivery was possible.
